Association Health Plans

The rising costs of health care have led to a drastic increase in health insurance premiums, and with approximately 27 million uninsured, working Americans, Congress is finally taking action, at least in terms of the health insurance needs of entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Association health plans, or AHPs, allow small businesses within an industry to group employees into a single pool. Doing so makes purchasing group health insurance plans much more affordable by helping small businesses to overcome the huge cost of meeting state health insurance coverage regulations.

While the House has been successful in passing AHP bills in past years, the Senate has been less willing to do so. But as the health insurance crisis grows, we may see the Senate put the AHP bill into action this year.
